Being the true successor of ancient Nalanda Mahavihara, Nava Nalanda Mahavihara has been functioning with the object to revive the glory of ancient Bharatiya Knowledge system with special emphasis on Pali and Buddhist Studies through its various aspects and fields of specialization. Besides, other languages and literatures like Sanskrit, Hindi, English, Prakrit, Chinese, Japanese, Tibetan, Sinhalese, Burmese, Thai, Korean etc. and subjects like Ancient History, Culture & Archaeology, Philosophy, Vipassana & Yoga, Buddhist Heritage and Tourism Management, Indian diaspora Studies, Translation Studies etc. are also being promoted to enlarge the canvas of Bharatiya knowledge.
Nalanda has been one of the oldest and the biggest residential Universities since the ancient days and has functioned as a cultural bridge between Bharat on the one hand and south-east Asia on the other. Nava Nalanda Mahavihara will continue to strive to enlarge its scope even to other parts of Asia like Taiwan, Korea, Mongolia, Russia, Japan, countries of the Central Asia wherever Buddhism had made inroad through its Philosophy, art and architecture, folk lore, dance and music, and so on.
We wish to establish special Centre of Teaching and Research in the languages and literatures of Theravāda Buddhist countries like Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore etc., as well as, those of Taiwan, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Magnolia, Russia etc. which could attract knowledge seekers, students and research scholars from these countries.
There is a large number of Manuscripts in Tibetan, Chinese, Thai, Sinhalese, Lao etc. which need serious attention for their translation and editing. NNM visualizes this significant tasks and aims to play its important role in it, so that they are made accessible to the common readers as well.
